1 Kings chapter 16 records the destruction of the dynasty of Baasha and the changes of kingship in northern Israel that continued through Elah, Zimri, Omri, and Ahab. The kings kept being replaced through treason and war, but the golden-calf worship Jeroboam had made did not disappear. Especially in the days of Ahab, the worship of Baal and Asherah spread on a national scale, and the evil of northern Israel grew still worse.
