1 Kings chapter 15 shows the reigns of Abijam and Asa, kings of southern Judah. This chapter is not simply a historical summary recording the deeds of two kings. It shows how, after Solomon’s corruption, the southern and northern kingdoms were divided, and how the sin of departing from God, passing through the days of Rehoboam and Jeroboam, was carried on to the next generation. At the same time, it shows Asa, who even in that dark stream tried to set his heart upright before God.
