The latter part of 1 Kings chapter 16 shows the age of Omri and Ahab. Omri seized the kingship as a strong force within northern Israel, and he bought the hill of Samaria and built a city. In human history Omri can look like a politically important king. He established a new capital and set the foundations of the kingdom in order. But the Scriptures evaluate him as an evil king before God. He did worse than all who were before him and walked in all the ways of Jeroboam.
