1 Kings chapter 14 is the chapter in which Jeroboam’s sin begins to be revealed as judgment on his house and on all Israel. When Jeroboam’s son Abijah became sick, Jeroboam did not come before God in repentance. He disguised his wife and sent her to the prophet Ahijah, wanting only to know what would become of the child. But God already knew of that disguise, and He spoke the judgment that would come upon the house of Jeroboam.
